Desiree Raposo | Scenic Route Counselling

Finding the right therapist isn't always easy.

With so many options, knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming, and starting counselling can be a big step. I'm glad you're here, and I hope this page gives you a sense of who I am and whether working together might feel like a good fit.

I believe healing happens in the presence of safety, connection, and feeling genuinely understood. My approach is warm and collaborative, with an emphasis on helping you slow down and explore the experiences and patterns that have shaped how you move through life.

Many of the ways we struggle make sense when we understand them in the context of our experiences and the ways we've learned to cope, adapt, and protect ourselves. Rather than seeing these patterns as personality flaws, we can approach them with curiosity and compassion and begin to understand what they may be telling us.

The approaches that shape
my work.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with a master’s degree in counselling. My work is trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and experiential. Our sessions offer room for both conversation and experiential work, allowing us to explore what can be difficult to put into words and support deeper emotional processing.

Understanding the patterns beneath the surface

I have a particular interest in working with trauma, attachment, and relationships, while also supporting clients through a range of emotional and relational challenges. My work with clients often involves exploring patterns such as people-pleasing, perfectionism, self-criticism, difficulty setting boundaries, and recurring challenges in relationships.

A little more about the person behind the practice.

I live in the small community of Malakwa in the Shuswap, where I feel most at home in the mountains and forests. I spend my free time mountain biking, snowboarding, practising yoga, and finding ways to be creative.

These parts of my life have shaped my appreciation for slowing down, reconnecting with myself, and finding my own way forward.

There isn't always a straight line to where we're going.

Counselling doesn't have to be about rushing toward a destination or having everything figured out. Sometimes it's about slowing down, becoming curious about where you've been, and finding a way forward that feels more like your own.
